The Italian national team set a world record by drawing 0-0 against its rival Switzerland on Sunday evening, during the match that was held on Sunday evening at the “St. Jacob’s Park”, as part of the fifth round of Group C matches, for the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
Today’s draw made the Italian team a record in the series of least defeated teams, after in the previous match with Bulgaria, they equaled the record of Brazil and Spain by not losing 35 matches in a row.
According to the Opta network for numbers and statistics, because of avoiding defeat against Switzerland, the Azzurri team entered history by setting a new record for 36 international matches without defeat.
The Italians achieved this series through 29 victories and 7 draws between the European Nations League, European Nations Championship qualifiers, World Cup qualifiers, Euro 2020 matches and friendly matches.
With this result, Italy is at the top of Group C with 11 points from 5 matches, while Switzerland is in the group runner-up with 7 points.
The two teams had met recently in the group stage of the last European Nations Championship “Euro 2020”, during which the Italian team won by three clean points.
Italy, led by coach Roberto Mancini, fell in the last round in a draw against its guest, Bulgaria, with a goal each, while Switzerland did not play during this round.
