Lorenzo’s Locks: The 3 best bets you should consider for NFL Week 6
SportsPulse: Lorenzo is on a roll, like a Derrick Henry stiff arm kind of roll. He provides his three best bets for Week 6 in the NFL.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are working virtually only on Saturday after shutting down their facility at TIAA Bank Field because a practice squad player tested positive for COVID-19, the franchise announced.
After confirming the positive test Friday night, the Jaguars said they are working with the NFL to review contact tracing data while the COVID-19 positive player remains self-isolated.
On Saturday afternoon, the Jaguars announced they had placed 12 players on the practice squad COVID-19 list: running back Nathan Cottrell; tight end Ben Ellefson, linebacker Nate Evans, LB Joe Harris-Giles, receiver Terry Godwin, tackle Jared Hilbers, offensive lineman KC McDermott, defensive back Doug Middleton, defensive back Austen Pleasants, receiver Josh Hammond, and receiver Trey Quinn.
They also placed defensive end Josh Mauro on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
As a precautionary measure, the franchise said they made the decision to conduct their activities for Saturday remotely while following NFL protocols and recommendations.
The NFL Network reported that the Jaguars’ players and coaches were receiving rapid test results Saturday morning.
The Jaguars’ Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers was moved up to Week 7 next week because the NFL had to reshuffle its overall schedule because of multiple postponements involving the Tennessee Titans after they had several players to test positive for COVID-19.
”We have to just kind of take things day-by-day and knowing that things may change, protocols may change, protocols are going to be put in place for all the right things, so I just kind of had my mindset that way,” Coach Doug Marrone said last week. ”So, when I see things like this go on and there’s a reaction to more protocols or learning process, or how can we do a better job so this doesn’t happen again? I accept that and go. I have faith in the doctors and the PA doctors, our doctors, and the people that are consulting on it.”
ESPN reported the New England Patriots reopened their facility Saturday after canceling practice Friday following a positive COVID-19 test result. The Indianapolis Colts shut down their facility Friday following four positive tests. However, the Colts announced the tests were re-examined and determined to be false positives.
The Atlanta Falcons shut down their facility Thursday after a member of their organization came back with a positive COVID-19 test. The Falcons reopened their facility on Friday.
Broncos release Bortles
Former Jaguars starting quarterback Blake Bortles was waived by the Denver Broncos on Saturday. Bortles was signed as a backup by the Broncos on Sept. 24 after starting quarterback Drew Lock suffered a shoulder injury. Bortles didn’t get any game snaps during his brief stay in Denver.
Bortles played five seasons for the Jaguars before he was released in March 2019 after they signed quarterback Nick Foles to a four-year, $88 million contract, Foles lasted one season in Jacksonville before he was traded in March to the Chicago Bears.
