JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ahead of the Jaguars’ Week 6 game, Head Coach Liam Coen analyzed the upcoming challenge posed by the Seattle Seahawks, emphasizing the strengths of their special teams and the balance of their offense.
Coen praised the Seahawks’ special teams as “very well coached,” highlighting the significant threat from returners Tory Horton and Dareke Young, who have both produced explosive plays this season. He noted that Jacksonville’s special teams unit, which he feels is improving weekly under Coordinator Heath Farwell and Assistant Coach Luke Thompson, must rise to the occasion.
“Anytime you’ve got a dynamic returner… our phase has to take that personally,” Coen stated, referencing his team’s dominant special teams performance in their last game. “We absolutely won that phase last weekend… and that was a huge reason why we won the game. So, another great test for these guys to be disciplined.”
Shifting to the Seahawks’ offense, Coen commended Head Coach Mike Macdonald for establishing a more balanced and physical running game. He observed that this approach creates difficulties for opposing defenses.
“That makes it hard on any defense when you’re able to be balanced and create explosives in both the run and the pass,” Coen said. He added that Seattle’s offensive scheme shows influences from successful systems like those of the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, further enhanced by players “that can score from anywhere.”
