The Atlanta Hawks have signed a deal with Jahlil Okafor. As reported by journalist Shams Charania, the contract is not guaranteed.
Recently, the Georgia franchise had also added player Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot as an unsecured. As of today, the Hawks have fourteen guaranteed contracts, so it is highly likely that Okafor and Luwawu-Cabarrot will fight for the last available spot.
Notably, the Hawks could have claimed Okafor from the list of waivers after being cut by the Brooklyn Nets last week. However, that would have meant taking on a contract for the guaranteed minimum for the 2021-22 academic year. Thus, the organization maintains its flexibility in order to finish preparing the roster.
At 25, Okafor has not been able to establish himself in the NBA after being selected in the third position of the 2015 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. His career averages rise to 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 19.5 minutes in a total of 247 games.
