Jalisco approves its own SAT; Congress asks to create the State Tax System

Guadalajara, Jal. The Treasury Commission of the Jalisco Congress approved this Friday the creation of the new State Tax Service (SET), as well as to urge the state governor to negotiate with the Federal Executive branch modifications to the Adhesion Agreement to the National Fiscal Coordination System.

The deputies of the commission argued that the objective is to guarantee fair treatment for Jalisco and that the money of the people of Jalisco be used to meet their needs “without taking resources from any other entity in the country.”

The coordinator of the Movimiento Ciudadano bench, Quirino Velázquez, affirmed that the creation of the State Tax Service will not generate new taxes, so there will be no impact on the pocket of the people of Jalisco.

On the contrary, he said, it will give greater efficiency in the collection administration. Meanwhile, the proposal for a new tax agreement with the Federation seeks an agreement that meets the needs of the entity and the size of its economy.

“It is positive, it can help us to be more efficient, to generate a better service for citizens, to generate greater awareness and, above all, social justice regarding the tax issue,” the legislator stressed.

He clarified the creation of the SET, “it will not generate more taxes, it will not be a charge for the treasury.”

Currently, the states of the country that have their own tax administration system are Baja California, Campeche, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa and Yucatán.

According to the president of the Finance and Budgets Commission, Claudia Salas, the new proposed fiscal coordination agreement does not propose the withdrawal of Jalisco from the National Fiscal Coordination System.

Both opinions are expected to be approved by the plenary session of Congress next week.
