Guadalajara, Jal. Despite the fall that the investment of the federal authorities for the entity had been registering since 2019, this 2023 will be positive in public works for the state due to the budgets approved by the three government orders for local infrastructure works.
The president of the Jalisco delegation of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Carlos del Río Madrigal, indicated that this year is promising for builders due, among other factors, to the investment of the federal government that allocated 5,346 million of pesos for works in the state.
Meanwhile, the state budget for public works will exceed 23,000 million pesos, while the municipal governments of Zapopan and Guadalajara plan to spend more than 1,000 million pesos each on infrastructure works.
“In 2022, the lack of federal investment was compensated because the state government increased public investment by 55% compared to 2021 and allocated more than 10% of its total budget for public works,” said the leader of the construction leadership. in the state.
Del Río Madrigal stressed that “public works resources have never exceeded 10% of the state budget, at least in the last decade.”
According to the president of CMIC, the investment in infrastructure by the state government and the municipalities, placed Jalisco in 2022 as the sixth entity with the most public works contracted, without depending on federal resources.
Based on the average monthly value of public construction contracted by state, according to statistics from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) as of October 2022, the entities that exercised the largest budget in this area were Tabasco, State of Mexico, Campeche , Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Jalisco.
“(In 2022) public construction averaged more than 400 million pesos per month just as it was before the drop in federal investment in 2019,” said the president of CMIC.
Private investment
In relation to private investment, in 2022 Jalisco ranked second in the country -only below Nuevo León-, with a monthly average value of 1,380 million pesos of contracted private work.
“In 2022, on average we had 16% more private construction contracted than in 2021,” said Del Río Madrigal.
