Jalisco exporters bet on market diversification

Guadalajara, Jal. In search of new international markets, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) exporters of Jalisco they participated in a trade mission to Japan, Vietnam and India, where they held meetings with their Asian counterparts, and with authorities and business organizations in that region.

“Our main theme is diversification and investment attraction to take advantage of the 14 trade agreements with 54 countries,” said the president of the Mexican Council of Foreign Trade (Comce) of WestMiguel Ángel Landeros, when emphasizing that both JaliscoLike all of Mexico, they need to look for new markets abroad since their exports continue to be concentrated in North America.

“Without neglecting our most important market, which is the United States, we can diversify further. In Jalisco we have already achieved it with 10% more than what the country has, which has only 20% diversified and we in Jalisco have already reached 30% permanently,” said the business leader, referring to the fact that 70% of Jalisco’s exports they go to the United States and the rest to other countries.

In interview with The EconomistLanderos Volquarts stressed that in Japan, businessmen from the West of the country participated in a plenary meeting organized by both Comceas its counterpart organization Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and JETRO -the Japanese organization responsible for promoting international trade in that country-, which was attended by the CEO of Honda and the vice president of ANA -airline with direct Mexico-Japan route- .

Also National Vice President of Comce He commented that in Vietnam, “we found a huge opportunity because they practically do not have value-added products,” while companies from the 21 export sectors that it has Jalisco like agriculture and manufacturers, they can sell directly to them the products that they currently import from France or South America.

“During this tour we have already established contact with the distribution companies, with the supermarket chains and with businessmen interested in moving our products; but we also meet with businessmen who have the ability to invest in Mexico so that they see us as the platform we are today with our treaty with North America and our own logistics as a supply chain.”

Miguel Ángel Landeros anticipated that in the first four months of 2023, Vietnamese businessmen will be in Jalisco to follow up on the negotiations carried out in the Asian country.

Meanwhile, in India, Mexican businessmen held B2B meetings with their Indian counterparts, as well as with representatives of organizations such as NASSCOM (Information Technology Industry Trade Association), with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

“We were accompanied by small and medium-sized companies, which are our primary objective, and they had quite good results; They are already working on primary agendas with a very good perspective that their products may soon be in these countries,” said Landeros.
