Jalisco haciendas maintain hotel occupancy above the historical average

Guadalajara, Jal. After having reached record occupancy figures in 2021, due to the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic generated a new profile of tourists looking for open spaces and few people, the farms, mansions and hotels of Jalisco they stabilized their occupancy levels at 40% on average in this 2022.

“Historically, since the association existed 22 years ago, we had occupancy levels of 30% per year, in 2021 we reached 48% on average and the first six months of 2022 we had those same numbers, although, already in this second semester the numbers they began to go down”, explained the president of the Association of Haciendas and Mansions of JaliscoSally Rangel.

He explained that the drop coincides with the recovery of the tourist activity and economic around the world since, now, people returned to travel to distant places when the restrictions that were in place for two years due to the pandemic were lifted.

However, he stressed, the indicators in this sector are 10 percentage points above the historical occupation.

With 22 years of existence, the Association of Haciendas and Mansions of Jalisco It has 39 hotels in 21 municipalities of the entity and together, they add up to 770 rooms.

This sector generates 750 permanent jobs, but on weekends the figure doubles since 80% of the affiliated hotels are located in tourist municipalities that receive visitors mainly from Friday to Sunday.

On weekends we have more than double the number of temporary employees who are hired on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to attend to the rooms and restaurants”, commented Sally Rangel.

Because many of the accommodation centers in this sector are boutique or experience hotels, the rates they manage are almost double those of conventional hotels in the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Currently, Rangel indicated, the average rate is 2,467 pesos per night.

The president of the association mentioned that these hotels are not just a place to stay, but also unique experiences, such as the Matices hotel in the magical town of Tequila in which the rooms are barrels.

He added that the association is dominated by boutique hotels that are distinguished by their location and the segment that is growing is that of concept hotels with spaces focused on tequila and others that have vineyards and produce their own wine.
