Guadalajara, Jalisco. By 2023, the Jalisco government will allocate a bag of 35,000 million pesos for infrastructure in the state, announced Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez.
Within the framework of the 2022 Plenary meeting of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), the state president told the state builders that in the first four years of his administration the entity invested 70,000 million pesos between the budget government and the management of resources with the federal government, while next year alone it plans to allocate half of that resource to public works.
According to the head of the state Executive, in a year the infrastructure works will be completed to solve the problem of water supply for the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, which will allow the generation of an additional five cubic meters per second.
positive indicators
During the event, businessmen and authorities agreed that the construction sector in Jalisco stands out at the national level with a 7% share of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 8.4% of the formal employment generated by this industry throughout the country.
“During the first half of this year, only 19 of the 32 states recorded positive results and Jalisco ranked third nationally in the construction sector,” said the national CMIC Treasurer, Benjamín Cárdenas.
He stressed that given the lack of investment by the federal government in public works, “it is the local governments that have truly generated opportunities for construction companies.”
The president of CMIC Jalisco, Carlos del Río Madrigal, indicated that this 2022 the entity is among the four states that generate the most employment in the construction sector and only from January to August of this year the industry created 9,000 new jobs.
According to the sector leader, inflation in the sector reaches 11.7%, although there are inputs that, so far this year, have reached an increase of up to 30% compared to the previous year, which in turn has generated a rise in interest rates that is expected, he said, to continue in 2023.
“This means the most serious annual inflation in the recent history of our industry,” said the leader of the construction leadership in the entity, who said that for these reasons investment in residential construction nationwide is 13.9% below pre-pandemic levels. .
