“Jalisco’s economic indicators exceeded pre-pandemic levels”: Enrique Alfaro

Guadalajara, Jalisco. “Jalisco broke its own record in economic activity,” and even its main economic indicators are above those it had in 2019, before the pandemic, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez assured during the presentation of his Fourth Government Report before the local Congress.

Based on the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, the president stated that Jalisco is the seventh entity with the highest growth in the second quarter of the year with 5.6% and is “the second entity with plus real contribution to the growth of national economic activity with 0.36”.

In this regard, the head of the Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedeco), Roberto Arechederra, told El Economista that 2022 will be a “historic year” in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with the capture of 3,000 million dollars.

According to the report presented by Alfaro Ramírez, from January to September of this year, 77,648 formal jobs were created in Jalisco, a figure 15% higher than the same period in 2021 and represents more than triple the national average in the creation of jobs.

“Jalisco contributes 10 out of every 100 jobs generated in Mexico,” stressed the head of the state Executive.

He mentioned that the unemployment rate in Jalisco has remained below the national average, and as of the second quarter of this 2022 it is at 2.3%, a lower level than it was before the pandemic.

In terms of exports, he said, 2021 closed with foreign sales of 30.432 million dollars, a figure higher than pre-pandemic exports; Meanwhile, at the end of 2022, the entity expects to reach 34,209 million dollars.

Finance

Regarding the management of finances in the state, Governor Enrique Alfaro indicated, based on the evaluation of the Budget Based on Results (PBR) of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), that in 2020 Jalisco was in 19th place in that indicator and “today we have 93.2% in the 2022 measurement and we are in fourth place in percentage of PBR implementation.”

He stressed that the financial health of Jalisco continues to strengthen, since the rating agencies HR Ratings and Moody’s increased the rating for the entity that has a “strong credit profile; we have the confidence of financial and banking institutions and according to the evaluators, we have a safe environment for investment”.

Regarding public debt, Alfaro Ramírez clarified that, based on SHyCP data, Jalisco is the thirteenth state with the lowest level of public debt; ranks 11th in terms of debt service and obligations over freely available income and “is the eighth entity with the lowest level below the national average in the indicator of short-term obligations and suppliers and contractors over income totals”.

Meanwhile, in per capita debt, he said, Jalisco has 16th place in debt for each citizen with 3,547 pesos, while Mexico City has a per capita debt level of 10,128 pesos and Nuevo León has 14,471 pesos of debt for each citizen. ”.
