James Harden arrives at TD Garden wearing a daring oversized furry fit on MetGala night with some comparing him to the Cookie Monster – before going on to produce the goods for 76ers
Celebrities at the MET Gala weren’t the only ones making statements in the fashion industry on Monday night, as James Harden turned heads with a wacky fit of his own before matching his playoff high against the Boston Celtics.
The Beard, 33, showed up at TD Garden for Game 1 of the 76ers’ Eastern Conference semifinals matchup in an oversized sweat suit that was covered in some type of blue fur that made made him look like the cookie monster from Sesame Street.
The 2018 MVP complemented his cozy fit with rather large and flared pants that also gave off a certain cowboy element to his attire, reminding fans of the guard’s scoring exploits with the Houston Rockets, where he played from 2012-2021.
What’s more is that Harden’s been linked with a return to Texas now that Ime Udoka is H-Town’s new head coach.
The Rockets are on the market for experienced players to lead the talented likes of young stars such as Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., and Alperen Sengun.
DRIP SO HARD: James Harden showed up ready to play despite his wacky fit on Monday night
On Monday, Harden torched the C’s, dropping 45 points and hit a go-ahead, step-back 3-pointer over Al Horford with 8.7 seconds left as Philadelphia rallied without Embiid to beat Boston 119-115.
‘We didn’t come into the game expecting to lose. We came in here to win,’ the 10-time All-Star said postgame in response to his critics. Harden is often criticized for his lackluster displays in the playoffs in contrast to his regular season achievements.
‘Whether [Joel] comes back or not, we’re going to be ready to go.’
Embiid was celebrating right after Harden drained a 3-pointer in the final minute of Game 1
Harden previously scored 45 points for the Rockets in a Western Conference Finals win over Golden State in the 2015 playoffs.
He made 17 of his 30 field-goal attempts (56 percent), including 7 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc.
It was The Beard’s 10th playoff game in which Harden has scored at least 40 points.
The 76ers played without Joel Embiid, who sustained a sprained LCL in his right knee during Game 3 of Philadelphia’s first-round sweep of Brooklyn.
Embiid led the NBA by averaging 33.1 points per game during the regular season.
