Japan’s “Japan Times” newspaper reported that the Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga, appointed Tetsushi Sakamoto “Minister of Unification”, after the ministry was created earlier this month.
The newspaper pointed out that the Ministry of Unification was added to the government in order to combat the phenomenon of suicide, which has increased significantly recently.
The newspaper said that the Japanese population is suffering from loneliness and isolation, with the prevalence of so-called “lone deaths”, referring to people who die inside their homes and remain undiscovered for long periods.
According to the newspaper, Japan ranks first in terms of the number of elderly people who feel they have no one to turn to in times of need.
The Corona pandemic has exacerbated feelings of isolation around the world, as experts believe that during the epidemic, the lack of job opportunities and the increased burden of caring for children and the home raised the level of tension.
