Japan recalls the importance of legal certainty in investments

Japan makes explicit to Mexico its interest in legal certainty and predictability in Mexican investment conditions, particularly in the energy sector.

This was revealed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi to the Secretary of Economy Raquel Buenrostro during a 75-minute meeting yesterday afternoon in Mexico City.

The interest that Japan has in strengthening trade ties with Mexico is reflected in the presence of Mr. Hayashi in our country.

During the meeting, the Asian official recalled the importance, for both countries, of the Japan-Mexico Economic Association Agreement, which came into force in 2005, since it has doubled the trade volume between the two countries and has multiplied by four the number of Japanese companies in Mexico, as revealed by the Japanese government through a statement.

Minister Hayashi showed the Mexican official his hope that companies in both countries will revitalize during the post-pandemic era, and in particular, through the 32nd meeting of the Japan-Mexico Business Council and the resumption of direct flights from Aeromexico.

Secretary Buenrostro explained the energy reform initiatives of the Government of President López Obrador, including the issue of renewable energy.

Finally, the Japanese Government reported that the two officials exchanged views on the Trans-Pacific Agreement for Economic Cooperation (CPTPP) and on the Pacific Alliance.

Regarding this last mechanism, which was born with a 100% commercial objective, there was no talk about the risk it runs because the Mexican government has not handed over the pro tempore presidency to Peru for political reasons.
