(CNN) — Jay Leno has been released from the hospital after suffering severe burns from a gasoline explosion approximately nine days ago.
The 72-year-old former “Tonight Show” host left the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles on Monday, the hospital announced in a statement. The hospital also shared a photo of the comedian with some members of the team that treated him.
“Comedian Jay Leno was released today from the Grossman Burn Center,” the hospital said in a news release. “Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic for burns to his face, chest and hands that he sustained during an explosion in the garage at his home.”
Leno, an avid car collector, was working under one of his vehicles when it burned down. He has undergone two surgical procedures to treat his injuries, Dr. Peter Grossman, his physician, previously announced.
“I am pleased with Jay’s progress and am optimistic that he will make a full recovery,” Grossman said Monday.
“Jay would like everyone to know how grateful he is for the care he received and is very grateful for all the well wishes,” the hospital added in its statement. “He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season.”
