(CNN) –– The presenter Jay Leno is recovering from the burns he suffered after a gasoline explosion, the former host of “The Tonight Show” told the magazine Variety.
“I suffered some serious burns from a gasoline explosion. I’m fine. I just need a week or two to recover,” Leno said in a statement sent to the publication.

Leno, an avid car collector, was working on one of his vehicles in his garage when the fire reportedly broke out. He is being treated at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, according to a TMZ report.

“Her family was unable to provide us with many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that prevented Jay from traveling,” said an email sent to conference attendees and obtained by the publication. “All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers are with him and his family tonight.”
The conference had advertised Leno as a special opening night performer for attendees who purchased a gold pass to the event.
