The founder of AmazonJeff Bezos will give away most of his $124 billion wealth during his lifetime, the billionaire told CNN in an interview Monday.
Without elaborating, Bezos said that he and his partner, the journalist-turned-philanthropist Lauren Sanchez, they were “building the capacity to be able to give this money away.” The billionaire has pledged to allocate 10,000 million dollars to the fight against climate change and the protection of nature through the Bezos Earth Fund, an organization of which he is executive president.
The fund did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Country music star and philanthropist Dolly Parton received 100 million dollars through the “Bezos Courage & Civility Award”an honor that recognizes leaders who “pursue solutions with courage and civility,” he said on Twitter on Saturday.
Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon chief executive in 2021, owns about 10% of the e-commerce giant, along with the Washington Post news organization and Blue Origin space tourism company.
