Melissa Jefferson-Wooden of the United States stormed to victory in the women’s 100m final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Sunday, setting a blistering new meet record of 10.61 seconds.
Jefferson-Wooden’s dominant performance surpassed her own world-leading time for 2025, which previously stood at 10.65.
Jamaica’s Tia Clayton secured the silver medal with a personal best of 10.76, while reigning Olympic champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia took bronze, crossing the line in 10.84 at Tokyo’s National Stadium.
Defending world champion Sha’Carri Richardson finished in fifth place with a time of 10.94. Legendary sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, competing in her final major championship, finished sixth in 11.03.
