Jemima Goldsmith slams mob who rallied outside her elderly mother’s home to protest Imran Khan

Jemima Goldsmith says protestors who are against her ex-husband, ousted Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, crowded around the house of her elderly mother and threatened to break in.

A man with a loudspeaker threatened Ms Goldsmith, who divorced Mr Kahn twenty years ago, and her children saying they would come into the house if she did not come down.

Protestors also held a rally outside her £1.3million London home yesterday, in retaliation to a rally in support for Imran Khan which was held outside the London home of the country’s former leader Nawaz Sharif.

The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), one of the three opposition parties in Pakistan against Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is confirmed to have organised the protests outside of Ms Goldsmith’s home.

Around 20 policemen stood outside in two vans to ensure that the protest remained peaceful, but that didn’t prevent the threats to her and her family. 

Her ex-husband and former cricketer was ousted as Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 9 after losing a dramatic late-night vote of no-confidence from MPs including members of his own party.

Ms Goldsmith highlighted the protest at her house on Twitter, saying it was unfair and not on. It is not suggested the protestors visible in the photo were doing anything other than protesting

The PMLN demanded PTI stop targeting the members of the Sharif family, while outside Ms Goldsmith’s house.

 PMLN’s Zubair Gull said that his party was forced to stage the protest outside Jemima’s house to ‘teach PTI a lesson’ that they are not ‘scared’.

He said PMLN organised the protest to highlight the alleged corruption and incompetence of the PTI government.

He said: ‘Imran Khan’s family was living in London but he was asking sons of others to break the law and go on a rampage to preserve his power.’ 

Ms Goldsmith went on Twitter to complain to the police about the group that gathered around her mother’s house, she said: ‘This is a video of hundreds of men protesting for hours outside my 88 yr old mother’s house in Surrey yesterday.

‘The man with the tannoy is threatening – ‘If Jemima and her children don’t come down here, then we will enter her bedroom.’

Speaking before the protest, when she became aware of them, she tweeted: ‘Protests outside my house, targeting my children, antisemitic abuse on social media…. It’s almost like I’m back in 90s Lahore.’

She retweeted Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon’s response, which said: ‘The right to protest is something we protect in the UK – but to target children and resort to antisemitic abuse is vile and unacceptable.’

Ms Goldsmith also said before the protest: ‘With respect, The difference is that I have got nothing to do with Pakistani politics and neither have my children.

‘They are low- key private individuals who are not even on social media.’

She has not made any political statement after the ousting of Imran Khan but her brothers Zac Goldsmith, who is a UK government minister, and Ben Goldsmith have expressed support for their former brother-in-law. 

Surrey police confirmed that the Met Police were in attendance of the protest outside Ms Goldsmith’s mother’s house.

Met police said officers were present at the protest in Ham Gate Avenue, Richmond,  but that there were no arrests and the group later dispersed.
