(CNN) — Unsurprisingly, Jennifer Coolidge starred in one of the highlights of Tuesday night, both when she presented an award and won her own trophy at the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles.
The “White Lotus” star took the stage for the first time to present the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a TV Series, before which she told a crazy story about how she had been approached as a presenter on the ceremony.
In one of the longest (but funniest) lead-ups to an award show, Coolidge opened up about his fears of tripping on the stairs and slurring his words while presenting. He even joked that someone suggested that he wear Crocs and pay more attention to the teleprompter.
Coolidge later took the stage again when she won the Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a TV Series for her iconic role as Tanya McQuoid in the HBO series. (HBO, like CNN, is part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)
In a speech that was equal parts emotional and hilarious, the “Legally Blonde” actress praised “White Lotus” creator Mike White for giving her “hope.”
“You have given me a new beginning. Even if this is the end – because you killed me – but that doesn’t matter. Even if this is the end, you changed my life in a million different ways,” she said, referencing the fate of his character in the acclaimed anthology series. “My neighbors are talking to me and things like that. I’m serious. I have never been invited to a party before, and now everyone is inviting me. It’s just… you know, it’s for you, Mike White.”
Coolidge continued to praise White, while he was seen emotionally in the audience.
“This is something that everyone, if you don’t know Mike White, this is what you need to know: he’s worried about the world, he’s worried about people, he’s worried about his friends who aren’t well, he asks about people, he asks they care about animals, and he really is one of the best people I’ve ever met,” he said.
Towards the end of his tribute, he added: “I just want to say, Mike White… I love you to death!”
It is not clear if it was the victory in his class or his extravagant presentation that earned him the biggest ovation on Tuesday.
