(CNN) — Jennifer Lopez takes pity on her 15-year-old twins for having to grow up with famous parents.
The artist had Max and Emme with her ex-husband, singer-actor Marc Anthony, and recently spoke to “Audacy” about them during a roundtable discussion to promote her Netflix movie “The Mother.”
In it, Lopez plays a murderer who comes out of hiding to protect the son she abandoned years ago. When she was asked on “Audacy” if there was anything she wishes she could protect her own children from, she replied, “Everything.”
“I think being the child of famous parents is not something that a lot of people can understand and I’m sorry to (my children) for that, because they didn’t choose that,” Lopez said.
The superstar singer-actress added that she has just started having conversations with her teenage children about how others treat them.
“When they walk into a room, people think about that,” Lopez said. “They don’t see them for who they are and I think that has to be very hard for them, so I would love to be able to protect them from that.”
Lopez also noted that while everyone is susceptible to bullying, “being judged by people you don’t even know in a way I think it’s really hard for them to grow up and be themselves. They know there’s a lens on them and that’s hard”.
“I did that to them,” he said. “As mothers, we feel guilty for what we have done and what we have brought to their lives.”
“The Mother” is available on Netflix.
