Jesús “El Rey” Zambada affirms that García Luna accepted bribes for 5 million dollars

Former Secretary of Public Safety, Genaro Garcia Lunaclarified this Monday that he will not speak in the trial that is ongoing against him in the Federal Court of the Eastern District of New York for drug trafficking, which is already entering its final stretch.

It was the first time that his voice could be heard in the courtroom, when Judge Brian Cogan wanted to ratify his desire not to testify: “Yes sir, it’s my decision,” said García Luna, and when Cogan insisted, he ratified himself in his words: “Yes sir, that’s right,” reported the media.

Jesus “King” Zambadaa former member of the Sinaloa Cartel, declared this Monday in the trial that García Luna is being followed in the United States, where he affirmed that the former federal official accepted contributions that totaled 5 million dollars, which allowed the growth of the group criminal.

According to reports, the witness described two meetings held in 2006, between García Luna and a lawyer identified as Óscar Paredes, who served as the Cartel’s contact. In these meetings, Zambada explained, two contributions were delivered, one of three million dollars and a later one of the remaining two million, whose objective was to allow the work of the criminal group.

Genaro Garcia Luna He is accused of five charges, four of them related to cocaine trafficking and a fifth with lying in the application for US citizenship.

It is estimated that the defendant would have received no less than “230 million dollars” in bribes from drug trafficking, according to a calculation based on data provided by witnesses.

The Prosecutor’s Office cut the initially prepared list to less than half, so the trial could end this week with the deliberations of the jury.
