Nevertheless, Buckley was not alarmed and courtesy of some unbelievable technique he spun and performed a heel kick which not only knocked out his opponent but visibly startled him.
Meanwhile, in contrasting scenes, cheers were heard around the ring and commentators went into a frenzy and were aghast and shocked at what they had just seen, as Buckley went over to his camp to start celebrating.
And speaking after the fight, retired MMA star Cormier posted on Twitter, saying: ‘I mean I’ve seen some s*** in mma, but that may be the craziest knockout ever!!!! Dude got some bonus money coming his way!!!!’.
But things appeared to get interesting when Kasanganay grabbed hold of Buckley’s ankle
But just moments later Kasanganay had fallen flat on the floor and looked visibly shaken
While he lay on the floor Buckley celebrated and fellow stars congratulated him on the kick
Current stars Justin Gaethje and Israel Adesanya were also amazed at the kick, with the former stating: ‘Wow we just witnessed the best KO of 2020,’ while the latter added: ‘That move. That’s 50 G’s!’
Adesanya’s comment appeared to refer to the kick being worth $50,000 (£38,000), but speaking after his unforgettable win, Buckley, 26, reportedly confirmed he wanted $100,000 (£76,000) in bonuses from Dana White.
As reported by talkSPORT, Buckley said: ‘The boss just told me that he wants to give me all of the bonuses, so I’m welcome to it, I want all of it.
‘To be honest with you, it’s surreal; a cloud came over my head when he was talking to me, so I couldn’t hear nothing, but once that money came in, once he talked about that, then it cleared up a little bit.
‘But it’s awesome, it’s surreal that Dana White came over and talked to me.’
On the kick itself, he is quoted as saying: ‘It was just open. I seen that he still had my legs, I was still able to balance with him grabbing my foot, so I just spun and kicked.
‘I aimed and I fire and it got the result we needed. I know I landed flush, I didn’t know if I knocked him out though until he locked up and I said it was game over.
‘I train it all the time, the only thing that was different was him holding my leg, but I practice it all the time.’
