Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine against covid-19 is no longer available in the US.

(Trends Wide) — Johnson & Johnson’s covid-19 vaccine is no longer available in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

All remaining doses expired last week, and the CDC has ordered suppliers to get rid of any leftovers.

About 19 million people in the US have received the J&J vaccine since it began. However, more than 31.5 million doses have been delivered to states and other jurisdictions, leaving about 12.5 million doses unused, according to CDC data.

Last year, the CDC limited the emergency use authorization of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine to adults who are also ineligible for other types of vaccine because of the risk of developing an unusual and dangerous clotting disease called thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia.

Only about 7% of people vaccinated in the US against covid-19 received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as their first dose.

Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines accounted for the vast majority of doses administered. Now that the covid-19 public health emergency is over in the US, these vaccines will continue to be free as long as federal supplies last.
