A coalition of human rights organizations joined in a lawsuit filed by “Facebook” against the Israeli company “NSO Group Technologies” for spyware.
The coalition said the company “prioritizes profit over human rights.”
Organizations including Access Now Internet Rights, London-based Amnesty International, and the Committee to Protect Journalists have submitted a legal memorandum to support the battle of “Facebook” against the Israeli company, which the social media giant accuses of exploiting a flaw in its instant messaging service WhatsApp to hack the phones of rights activists. Human and opponents around the world.
On Monday, a group of technology giants, including Microsoft, Google, Dell and Cecico, filed a similar note, warning that the NSO’s hacking tools pose a threat to users’ safety over the Internet.
The Israeli company says it should take advantage of “sovereign immunity” as it provides digital penetration tools for police and intelligence agencies, a legal principle that generally protects foreign governments from lawsuits.
The company lost that argument in Northern California District Court last July, which made it appeal to the Ninth Circuit.
