- Jon Jones has been railing against Khabib Nurmagomedov being the greatest

‘Bones’ has been repeatedly fighting back against the notion that Khabib is the greatest MMA fighter of all time since the win and subsequent retirement at UFC 254.
The American is adamant that GOAT status belongs to him but the UFC officially bumped him down a place to No 2 in favour of Khabib.
Jon Jones is irritated by the fact that the UFC have moved Khabib Nurmagomedov above him
Khabib was moved up to top spot in the pound-for-pound list by the UFC on Tuesday
Jones labelled the decision ‘No 1 bull****’, using a phrase Khabib has become known for, on a tweet from the UFC revealing the change to rankings.
He also added: ‘Unanimous decision over last minute replacement Al Iaquinta to become champion.
‘Conor McGregor is the only opponent he’s ever had that the general public actually knew. Catapulted my man to becoming the best ever, this is hilarious.’
Khabib reacted to the news of his place at the top of the list by writing: ‘It was work of my life, I never got anything easy, and nothing was given to me because I’m nice guy.
‘Hard work, hope for Allah and patience, this three ingredient helps me to get successful, and of course, control and advises from my Father, who invested in me a lot of time and work.’
Only hours earlier, Jones had posted a video of himself digging at Khabib fans proclaiming their man to be the best fighter of all time.
He said: ‘I’m talking to all you Khabib fans out there. Fifteen world titles to your guys’ four, and you guys are really talking about who’s the best fighter ever? You guys are joking, right?
‘Fifteen to four. Are you guys’ kidding me? The only person that could possibly come back and challenge my record and what I’ve done in the UFC is possibly Georges St-Pierre.
Khabib put on an incredible display to defeat Justin Gaethje in their lightweight fight
‘He would have to come back and win two championship fights to tie me, and I’m not even retired yet. I’m 33 years old. I’ve got a whole other chapter to go through.
‘You guys are nuts – I love you guys so much,’ he said. ‘I hope you guys all have a great day. Fifteen world championships to four.
‘And all you guys who are going with this he’s more dominant argument, the just recently started fighting elite-level competition. Could you imagine me against the No 10 ranked guy?’
In the immediate aftermath of Khabib’s win over Gaethje, Jones was clearly peeved at all the adulation coming the Russian’s way.
He tweeted: ‘I mean if I get out ranked by a man with only three title defences, I don’t really know what to think anymore.’
Jones was the youngest champion in UFC history and remains active with Khabib retired
‘Not salty at all, I do really respect Khabib. I honor the type of man he is. But being the best is earned not given. Unfortunately four title fights ain’t it, no matter how much we all like em.’
Jones’s multiple bans for failing drugs tests stand in the way of him being recognised as the greatest of all time for many fans.
But he is in the process of stepping up to heavyweight having vacated the light-heavyweight belt.
He could add another remarkable chapter to his legacy if he manages to beat Stipe Miocic in a super-fight. Khabib has decided to call time on his career and will go out as No 1 after promising his mother he would no longer fight without his late father Abdulmanap their to support him.
The Russian returned to his homeland as a hero after securing the victory in Abu Dhabi
