Suicide deaths in Jordan recorded a remarkable increase in 2020, to reach 152, an increase of 33 cases compared to 2019, when the number of suicides reached 119.
According to official statistics, last year recorded the highest suicide rates in Jordan for five years, while sociologists and psychologists attribute the high suicide rates to economic, social and other psychological factors linked to the Corona pandemic.
The year 2018 witnessed 142 suicides, and 2017 witnessed 130 cases, 120 cases in 2016, and 113 cases in 2015.
The main drivers of suicide were family disintegration, frustration, failure, poverty, unemployment, disorders, mental illness and drug abuse.
There are many ways of suicide, as there are those who resorted to hanging themselves, and from burning themselves, while there are those who ingested large quantities of medicines, or toxic materials such as insecticide, and those who jumped from a height, while some resorted to other methods.
