Juan Guaidó asks to preserve the interim government in Venezuela

Caracas. The opponent Juan Guaidó raised on Thursday to maintain the “interim government” in Venezuela “above names”, when the option of being replaced by another leader appeared before a proposal to eliminate that figure created in 2019.

Guaidó called for this Friday a pending debate on the future of the symbolic “interim government”, which in principle was to take place on Thursday, but which he himself had later deferred to January 3.

“My proposal is that the institutional framework be defended above names or personal interests and that this tool is not destroyed,” Guaidó said in a video posted on social networks.

Among harsh crosses of public statements that show the existing fractures in the opposition, the Primero Justicia (PJ), Acción Democrática (AD) and Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) parties lead the proposal to put an end to the “interim” after four years of failed offensive to remove the socialist president Nicolás Maduro from power.

The discussion summons 104 members of Parliament with an opposition majority elected in 2015, whose term ended last year, but who defends its validity by denouncing the 2020 legislative elections as fraudulent, in which pro-government Chavismo regained control of the chamber.

Guaidó maintains that eliminating the “interim” would entail the “risk” of allowing Maduro to regain control of Venezuela’s resources blocked abroad.
