Juice diets have become very popular recently. What is its nature and what are its advantages? What are its risks?
To answer these questions, Niklas Schwarz, a lecturer at the German University for Prevention and Health Management, explained that the juice diet means consuming only vegetable and fruit juices, water, tea, and vegetable soup, and completely dispensing with solid foods for no more than a week.
Schwarz added that a person consumes up to 6 servings of vegetable and fruit juices during one day, knowing that each serving ranges between 250 and 500 milliliters, so the total amount ranges between one liter and 1.5 liters.
It is important to distribute the portions throughout the day instead of eating them all at once, otherwise the blood sugar level will rise sharply, then fall again quickly, which leads to a decrease in energy instead of an increase.
Vitamins and minerals
Schwarz pointed out that vegetable and fruit juices provide the body with vitamins, minerals, secondary plant materials and dietary fiber, pointing out that the juice diet, which is followed for a week, helps to lose weight at a rate of one to 1.5 kilograms, and even 3 to 5 kilograms, noting that What the body loses is not pure fat, but rather a large percentage of water.
This diet also helps reduce the burden on the digestive system, which helps you enjoy a better feeling in your body.
Risks
For her part, German nutrition expert Anthea Gall explained that the juice diet is a one-sided diet. As it lacks proteins and essential fatty acids.
Therefore, people who suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, liver, kidney and thyroid diseases should consult a doctor before following this diet.
This also applies to cancer patients, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly and children.
