Justin Trudeau will be the first head of government of a country to land at the AIFA

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, reported that the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau will land at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in January 2023, as part of his tour to Mexico for the North American Leaders Summit.

The Mexican president also raised with the government of President Joe Biden the possibility of his plane landing at the new capital airport, as a gesture of friendship and diplomacy between the United States and Mexico.

“I am making the recommendation and hopefully the United States Embassy will take note (…) It is not a matter of logistics, it is a political matter. Maybe President Biden doesn’t know this, but I’m taking the opportunity to tell him that out of friendship and diplomacy We ask that your plane land at the Felipe Ángeles Airport”, raised the president.

López Obrador will receive President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the eleventh edition of the North American Leaders Summit, which will be held at the National Palace as the main venue between 9 and 11 January in a larger format of meetings between officials from the three countries.

According to the Mexican government, the meetings will address issues such as equity and inclusion; climate change and the environment, as well as North American competitiveness, health, migration, security and development.
