US President Joe Biden has appointed an African-American and homosexual as the new White House spokeswoman.
Karen Jean-Pierre will replace Jean-Pierre, starting on May 13, after Karen served as her deputy during the last period, and Biden expressed his pride in this appointment, praising the “experience, talent and integrity” of the new spokeswoman, according to a statement issued by the US Presidency.
Jane Psaki wrote on her Twitter account that Jean-Pierre “will be the first black woman to hold the position and the first openly gay,” adding that her successor “will give a voice to many people and allow many to have big dreams.”
With this appointment, Karen-Jean-Pierre, 44, will be the first black and gay woman to hold the position of White House spokesman.
Karen was born on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, of Haitian parents who later immigrated to the United States, and worked in Barack Obama’s election campaigns in 2008 and 2012, and was part of his presidential team, and also worked in Joe Biden’s campaign in 2020 before joining his team in White House.
Jean-Pierre held the position of head of public affairs for the left-wing “Move On” Foundation, and attacked former US President Donald Trump in a video clip of this organization in 2018, saying, “I represent everything that Donald Trump hates.”
