Karl Stefanovic unleashes during fiery Today show interview about Parliament rape ‘cover up’ – as explosive CCTV reveals how guards unlocked office for alleged attacker and shows him leaving alone
Karl Stefanovic has clashed with a federal senator in a fiery live television interview over the government’s handling of parliamentary rape allegations which have come to light.
The government fallout continues after former parliamentary staffer Brittany Higgins alleged earlier this week she was sexual assaulted by a male colleague in defence minister Linda Reynolds’ office in 2019.
Stefanovic didn’t mince his words when he grilled federal senator and former cabinet minister Matt Canavan on the Today show early Wednesday morning.
The host accused the government of a cover up and found it ‘beyond belief’ the authorities weren’t told.
It comes amid fresh explosive claims that CCTV shows how security guards let the alleged attacker and the woman into the minister’s office.
The male staffer is later seen leaving the building alone, news.com.au reported.

‘There’s no question this has been covered up,’ Stefanovic began.
‘I mean, the security guards, they’ve covered up evidence. We haven’t been able to see any of the actual security vision.
‘There was a deep clean of the room that went on. I mean, Linda Reynolds, I can’t fathom how her position is tenable. It’s untenable.’
Senator Canavan was quick to jump to the defence of Minister Reynolds.
‘Karl, I’m not going to repeat the words you said, but obviously when an incident like this is reported, there has to be a proper investigation and that has to be handled by authorities, police and others in an HR environment,’ the senator replied.
‘I don’t believe there’s any evidence that Minister Reynolds did not seek to follow this matter up.

‘I don’t think that Minister Reynolds acted in anyway but good faith in these circumstances.’
But the Today show host disagreed.
‘I’m sorry, but Linda Reynolds, if a woman is saying that she was raped inside her parliamentary office, it is beyond belief that the authorities weren’t told,’ Stefanovic argued.
More to come.
