Extreme kayakers who plunged 30metres down a waterfall say ‘you’ve got to live life a mile at a time’ – and insist it’s ‘not that dangerous’ despite suffering injuries in the fall

- Lachie Carracher and Andre Hemmerle defended the stunt saying it was safe
Brave kayakers who plummeted 30metres down a raging waterfall have spoken out after they were slammed as ‘madmen’ for risking their lives during the torrential downfall.
Lachie Carracher and Andre Hemmerle fell from the top of Dangar falls, 2km north of Dorrigo, on Monday as downpours lashed the region.
Despite leaving the water battered and bruised, they still claim it was completely safe.

Mr Carracher appeared on the Today Show on Wednesday morning sporting several grazes to his face, says he has no regrets about the stunt.
‘You’ve just got to live life a mile at a time,’ Mr Carracher said.
‘It’s actually not that dangerous. I don’t recommend this to novice kayakers. This isn’t something that you would go out and paddle without the experience,’ Mr Hemmerle said.
The pair have been kayaking together for the past 15 years and even worked as kayak instructors overseas for several years.
Mr Hemmerle said the video looked far worse than it was in life.
‘It’s years and years of experience. This isn’t something that we’ve just gone and done, thrown ourselves off a top of a water fall,’ Mr Carracher said.
A video posted on Facebook shows one of the sportsmen paddling over the edge of the cliff through the gushing stream, plummeting metres into the pool below.
‘What a madman,’ the bystander filming says.
