Monique (pictured) moved from Sydney to Cleveland in the US to be with her NBA fiancé Didi Louzada. In a video, she detailed how she was almost ‘arrested’ when officers thought she was carrying a weapon, but it was a $9 camera tripod from Kmart
Monique accepted the fact that ‘this is America’ and allowed the police officers to conduct a ‘search’. She then, without saying a word, looked at the camera and lifted up her top to expose the tripod. ‘Guys, (it was) my camera tripod. Oh my god. They thought it was a gun,’ Monique said
‘I am mortified,’ Monique said in the video.
‘I’m new to the city and basically I live across from the casino. I was like, I’m gonna go to the casino because that’s where my closest Starbucks is and I want to get Starbucks.
‘So I go to the casino, it’s my first time there, I sign in with my Australian passport and I’m chatting to the people, saying, “I’m new to the city”.’
Once she signed her detailed, she looked around the casino.

‘I’m walking around for like one to two minutes, having a look around. I thought, ‘I’ll just grab my Starbucks and I’m going to explore my city a little bit’,’ she recalled.
‘Anyway, I’m walking around and I get approached by two police officers. They’re like, “Excuse me ma’am, we have a reason to believe that you’re concealing a weapon”.
‘I’m like, “Me? A weapon?” I was like, “Look at the size of my bag, it’s teeny tiny, there’s no way I’m concealing a weapon. What do you mean?”
Monique accepted the fact that ‘this is America’ and allowed the police officers to conduct a ‘search’.
She then, without saying a word, looked at the camera and lifted up her top to expose the tripod.
‘Guys, (it was) my camera tripod. Oh my god. They thought it was a gun,’ Monique said and extended the product to show what it was.
In the comments Monique said she and the officers all looked at each other and ‘had a big laugh’ about it after.
‘This would only happen to me,’ she added.
In the caption of the video, which has now been viewed more than 181,000 times, Monique also wrote: ‘What $9 Kmart item almost got me arrested in the US? We are not in Australia anymore.’
Many were left in disbelief while others couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.
‘Only in America hey.. things like that don’t happen in Australia,’ one person wrote.
Another said: ‘Literally who holds their tripod there???!!’ and Monique said: ‘Obviously me’ with a laughing face emoji.
‘The audacity,’ a third joked.
