Kylie Gillies says she’s hoping for a ‘miracle’ that she can reunite with her sons and husband on Christmas Day, after fleeing Sydney on Sunday due to border closures.
The Morning Show presenter, 53, said she’s ‘never packed so fast in her life’ as she scrambled for a flight to Queensland to be with her mum, dad and sister, after an eruption of COVID-19 cases in Sydney meant state borders are closing rapidly.
On Instagram, the heartbroken host said she’s hoping for a ‘short border close’ so she can spend the festive season with her husband Tony and their teenage sons, Gus and Archie, who are believed to currently remain in Sydney.

‘As the border shuts in a few hours, I scrambled to get a flight into QLD,’ she began.
‘I reckon I got the last ticket, on the last flight out tonight to Brisbane.’
She added that her sister is set to pick her up from the airport and take her to Hervey Bay, where her mum and dad reside.

‘Almost everyone I know has had their Christmas plans skittled in one or another. My heart goes out to all of you.’
After landing in Queensland, an emotional Kylie posted a picture of the sky outside the plane window, captioning the shot with: ‘Even the sky looks sad #bordershutdown.’
On Sunday, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said that from 1am tomorrow, residents of Greater Sydney will not be allowed in the state.

The closures come after COVID-19 cases from a cluster in the northern beaches surged, with 30 new cases on Sunday taking the total to 68.
The news has put a whole host of Christmas plans in jeopardy, with some state borders slamming shut, while others are enforcing a mandatory 14 day quarantine to anyone entering from Sydney.
The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield, comedian Andy Lee and Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald have all been spotted at airports across the country, as they rush home in time for Christmas amid the pandemic panic.
