Kyrie Irving could make his Mavericks debut as early as this WEDNESDAY after his trade from the Nets

Following his blockbuster trade from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks, the date for Kyrie Irving’s debut with his new team has been set. 

Irving is reportedly set to play his first game for the Mavericks on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 30-year-old is expected to travel to Los Angeles with his new team Wednesday where he’ll take the floor to face the Clippers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The report adds that the eight-time All-Star is also scheduled to undergo a physical in Dallas on Monday, clearing the path for him to play in LA, barring any setbacks. 

Irving will now join forces with Luka Doncic to form one of the most dangerous backcourts in the NBA, although they may not play their first minutes together on Wednesday.

Doncic is currently out with a heal injury he sustained on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans. 

Irving has averaged 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 40 games after sitting out several games due to being suspended once he failed to apologize for reposting the link to a movie which was deemed anti-Semitic.

Doncic has averaged 33.4 points, 8.2 assist, and 8.9 rebounds throughout his 47 appearances. 

While all eyes will be on Irving’s debut on Wednesday, there may be others who will still be watching what the Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant do in the aftermath of the trade. 

The Phoenix Suns are said to be prepared to pursue Durant should he be made available, while the Toronto Raptors had talks with the Nets on a ‘subsequent deal’ following the Irving trade. However, it remains to be seen what the talks entailed and if they involved Durant. 

Brooklyn themselves have said that they plan to build around Durant so things may get interesting as we approach Thursday’s trade deadline.

The Lakers, who are trying to inject some life into their season, tried to get involved as Irving was interested in going to LA. 

The franchise are currently 25-29 and in 13th place in the West – 2.5 games out of the play-in tournament.

The move sees Irving partner with Dallas star and MVP candidate Luke Doncic once healthy 

But they had their hopes dashed after the Irving headed to Dallas instead with Nets owner Joe Tsai’s objective being to not send the guard to Los Angeles, according to Marc Stein. 

Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks Sunday afternoon, ending his controversial tenure with the Brooklyn Nets. 

Nets get Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round and multiple second-round picks in return for Irving, according to The Athletic. Markieff Morris is also heading to Dallas.

The move sees Irving join forces with Luka Doncic. The Mavericks next play on Monday night against the Utah Jazz. Irving missed the Nets game on Saturday night against the Wizards due to right calf soreness.

The Lakers were also linked with a move for Irving but, according to ESPN, the Nets preferred the package on offer from Dallas. The picks the Nets get in the deal are a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 second round-pick.

Irving also has history with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison – who previously worked at Nike – and Dallas have been said to be keen to get in another big name to partner MVP candidate Doncic.
