Labor market registered the loss of 120,000 formal jobs in September

The working market observed in September the destruction of 120,167 jobs, all of them formal and subordinate, the first negative data after three consecutive months of positive figures, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

According to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) of the ninth month of the year, the decrease in the number of places was transferred in its entirety to the inactive population not available for work, which translated into a reduction in the total employed population. However, this movement allowed the global indicators to report positive figures.

In this way, the vacancy rate it stood at 3.3%, a reduction of 0.2 points compared to what was observed in August. The same thing happened with the extended unemployment rate, which also includes people in underemployment, which was 11.8%, a monthly reduction of 0.3 points.

By economic sectors, job losses were concentrated mainly in the industrial sector, with the reduction of 399,254 jobs in manufacturing and 11,820 jobs in the extractive industry; as well as in services, with higher declines in commerce (-189,309) and professional services (-181,851). This was offset by positive figures in agricultural activities (265,957) and the line of restaurants and hotels (393,575).

Inegi data show that during September, formal employment had a reduction of 124,775 jobs; in the informal sector, on the other hand, the addition of 4,608 jobs was reported, this led to the labor informality rate will increase from 55.4 to 55.6% in the monthly comparison.
