Academy and Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga is set to appear in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, fitting the production into her demanding Mayhem Ball Tour schedule.
Following four sold-out performances at London’s O2 arena, Gaga was spotted in Milan, where the sequel is currently filming. The appearance comes just before she is scheduled to perform at Stockholm’s Avicii Arena. This role marks her first major film appearance since Joker: Folie à Deux, following a recent cameo in the Netflix series Wednesday.
The 2006 film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same name, chronicled aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she navigated the demanding world of the high-fashion magazine Runway under its formidable editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Weisberger’s book is a roman à clef inspired by her time as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
While plot details remain unconfirmed, the sequel will reportedly see Miranda Priestly confronting the decline of traditional magazine publishing. The story is said to pit her against her former assistant, Emily (Emily Blunt), now a powerful executive at a luxury group whose advertising budget Miranda desperately needs. The role of Hathaway’s character, Andy, remains unclear, as she had left Runway for a newspaper job at the end of the original film.
Production buzz recently intensified after Streep and co-star Stanley Tucci were seen at Milan Fashion Week, where Streep and Anna Wintour shared a widely publicized moment.
David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna return to direct and write, respectively, with Karen Rosenfelt also reprising her role as producer. The cast sees the return of Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman, alongside franchise newcomers Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, and Simone Ashley.
20th Century Studios is set to release the film on May 1, 2026, nearly two decades after the original.
