Lakers’ Pat Beverley mocks Damian Lillard’s ‘Dame Time’ celebration during 25-point comeback win against the Trail Blazers before the Portland guard hits back by branding him a ‘con man’
Patrick Beverley is known for being one of the NBA’s most agitating defenders and he proved that again on Sunday night in the LA Lakers’ 25-point comeback against the Portland Trailblazers, as he mocked Damian Lillard’s famous ‘Dame Time’ celebration.
With the game all but over and the score in favor of the Lakers (119-112) with 30.3 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, Beverley poked fun at the Trailblazers star guard by tapping his wrist after getting a bucket.
The 34-year-old former NBA All-Defensive First Team (2017), then pointed at his wrist, just like Lillard does after making a clutch play, but then playacted his watch being broken, so he proceeded to remove it and shove it in his pocket.

Lillard’s usual ‘Dame Time’ celebration comes after a clutch play from the ‘Blazers’ star guard
It was the final say in a battle of words between the two opponents, at least on the court, following a moment in the second quarter when things got heated between the pair.
With Portland leading at that point, 38-40, with a little less than eight minutes before halftime, Lillard was shooting free throws at the line while Beverley was trash talking him to make him miss.
The 32-year-old then got chippy with the Lakers point guard, telling him: ‘I’ll beat your a**,’ before being separated by teammates. Beverley ended up receiving a technical foul on the play for his antics.
The mutual dislike between the two NBA stars then boiled over on social media after the Lakers’ 121-112 win.
In his postgame interview, Beverley criticized reporters for not giving him enough credit for locking down Lillard. Beverley was +27 from the floor thanks to his defense despite only ending up with four points, two steals, two assists and one block.
‘If he would have cooked me you would have said ”I couldn’t guard him,”’ Beverley said. ‘But he misses a couple shots and it’s a ”slow shooting night.” ”God job on Dame sounds better.”’
After LA’s win, Lillard called Beverley a ‘con man’ and compared him to a fictional crackhead
In response to Lillard’s tweet, Beverley claimed the Blazers guard was ‘mad’ and ‘entertaining’
On Twitter, Lillard reacted to Beverley’s postgame interview by calling the former Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Clippers, and Houston Rockets player a ‘con man’ and compared him to Flip, a character form the movie ”Above the Rim”.
In the film, Flip is a homeless crackhead with a passion for basketball.
In response, Beverley said: ‘He mad. Entertaining.’
Following their back-to-back win on Sunday, after beating the Grizzlies, 121-122, on Friday, the Lakers next play the Clippers in the Battle of LA on Tuesday.
The Trailblazers take on the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.
