Lara Trump believes that her father-in-law, Donald Trump, will become a symbol of support and patriotism with his mugshot plastered on posters, dorm rooms, and flags owned by those who love the country. The former president is scheduled to be booked into Fulton County jail in Atlanta on Thursday after being indicted for his alleged involvement in attempting to overturn the 2020 election. Alongside 18 other defendants, he was charged by Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, on August 14 with RICO and other charges. Lara Trump dismissed the idea that someone as famous as Trump would need a mugshot, viewing it as an attempt to embarrass him, but believes it will ultimately backfire and be used as a show of support. The presiding judge in Trump’s case ruled that cameras will be allowed in the courtroom for his arraignment, which will likely occur after Labor Day.
During an appearance on Newsmax, Lara Trump discussed her father-in-law’s arraignment and expressed her belief that the mugshot will rally supporters and encourage them to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election. She anticipates that the image will be displayed on posters, dorm rooms, t-shirts, and flags by people who love their country and support Donald Trump. The decision to allow cameras in the courtroom was made by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee until September 8, but it remains unclear if cameras will be permitted during the trial. District Attorney Willis plans to hold arraignments for all defendants during the week after Labor Day, potentially making it the first televised trial of a former president in US history. Trump has accused Willis of being a corrupt district attorney and called the charges against him part of a witch hunt. This case, which relies on RICO laws typically used against organized crime, marks the fourth targeting the 77-year-old Republican this year and could have significant implications. John Dean, former White House counsel for Richard Nixon, compared the allegations against Trump to Watergate and stated that they are much more serious. Alongside Donald Trump, others who have been charged include Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, Sidney Powell, and Mark Meadows. Willis intends to try all defendants simultaneously and has given them until noon on August 25 to surrender, or else arrest warrants will be issued. Additionally, there are 30 “un-indicted co-conspirators” who are accused of being part of the plot but have not been named or charged.
