Russian troops gain positions in Severodonetsk, according to the Ukrainian Army
Russian troops are gaining a foothold in the Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk, in the eastern region of Luhansk, according to the latest part of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “The aggressor carried out assault operations in the northern, southern and eastern districts of the city of Severodonetsk,” says the text, published on Wednesday on the Facebook page of the General Staff.
In the direction of Donetsk, the aggressor’s units, with the support of the air force, focus their efforts on different offensive operations, according to the kyiv analysis, which adds that the enemy fires with mortars, artillery and MLRS rocket launchers. Likewise, Russia has reinforced and regrouped units in the direction of Liman, where “the fighting continues”, while in Bakhmut, the enemy tries to expel the Ukrainian units from their positions near Bilohorivka and Vrubivka.
Enemy artillery fire damaged the area of the town of Seredina-Buda, in the Sumy region, and in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, the ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation continue to isolate the area and blocking navigation.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, in the last 24 hours, nine enemy attacks were repulsed in the Donetsk and Lugansk directions, and two tanks, thirteen artillery systems and a dozen vehicles were destroyed.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), an organization for strategic and military analysis based in Washington, has also published its own analysis of the conflict in recent hours, highlighting Russia’s decision to concentrate forces in the east Ukrainian to capture new territories, such as Severodonetsk and Donbas in general. That decision, according to ISW experts, “creates the conditions to intensify counterattacks by Ukrainian forces in the Kherson region”, where Russian troops are increasingly “more vulnerable”. That strategy is creating “vulnerabilities for Russia” in Kherson, where Ukrainian counter-offensives continue, they add.
British intelligence also confirms these data. According to the latest report, although the occupiers carry out offensive operations in Donbas, they have to defend themselves in some areas. (Efe)
