Longtime featherweight veteran and UFC Vegas 102 co-headliner, Calvin Kattar, was booted from the Top 10 of the promotion’s 145-pound rankings after losing to red-hot division up-and-comer, Youssef Zalal, who debuted at No. 12 in this week’s official update. That means Edson Barboza has gone bye-bye to make room for the 28 year-old “Moroccan Devil.”
That’s not all.
Valter Walker submitted Don’Tale Mayes on the UFC Vegas 102 preliminary card, costing “Lord Kong” his place in the heavyweight rankings. Taking over the No. 15 spot is undefeated heavyweight sensation Tallison Teixeira, who had a breakout performance as part of the UFC 312 pay-per-view (PPV) card earlier this month in Sydney, Australia.
Here’s how the rankings are compiled, at least until AI takes over:
Rankings are generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
