Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed, on Tuesday, his country’s expectation that the new US administration headed by Joe Biden would make a choice in favor of dialogue with Russia.
Lavrov added, in statements carried by the Russian news agency (Sputnik), “We hope that the new team in the White House will take a choice that meets the interests of the American people and shows a mutual desire to establish a dialogue with Moscow.”
Lavrov explained that only in this case will Russian-American relations be able to finally return to the path of sustainable development, and that this will have a positive impact on the general climate in international affairs, given the special responsibility of Russia and the United States as the two largest nuclear powers and permanent members of the Security Council. In order to maintain global stability and security, especially at this difficult time the world is going through.
The electoral college had proven Biden winning the presidential election by giving him 306 votes out of a total of 538 votes for the assembly, exceeding that number required to win the presidency.
The results of the vote are to be officially approved on January 6, and Biden will be inaugurated on January 20.
