Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned of attempts to destroy the Dayton Agreement that ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995.
At the conclusion of talks he held in Sarajevo, with Milorad Dodik, the Serbian member of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Russian minister said: “I would like to firmly warn some of our partners against the attempts to destroy the structures of the Dayton Agreement, which we are witnessing at the present time. Regardless of its motives, it threatens extremely dangerous consequences. “
Lavrov said that the Dayton Agreement does not in any way impede the development of relations between Sarajevo and other countries or joint European institutions, stressing that Moscow will respect Bosnia Herzegovina’s steps on the path to European integration if these steps are taken in compliance with the Dayton principles.
