Leader of Los Mexicles, one of the 25 escapees from the prison in Ciudad Juárez: SSPC

Ernesto Alfredo Piñón de la Cruz, alias “El Neto”, 32, leader of the Los Mexicles criminal group, was one of the 25 inmates who escaped yesterday from the Social Reintegration Center 3 of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, reported the federal Security Secretary, Rosa Icela Rodríguez.

In a press conference at the National Palace, accompanied by the heads of the secretariats of the Interior, National Defense and National Guard, Rosa Icela Rodríguez explained that the balance of the riot on Sunday in said prison is 25 escaped inmates, members of Los Mexicles, related the Caborca ​​Cartel; in addition to 10 deceased custodians and seven prisoners. Also 15 injured: 14 inmates and a custodian.

He indicated that the local prison is already fully governable by the state prison authorities. He stressed that during the search operation for those responsible, elements of the Army and the National Guard arrested five people related to the escape of the prisoners.

The Secretary of National Defense, Luis Crescencio Sandoval, indicated that the disturbances generated by the Los Mexicles gang in the surroundings of Cereso 3 in Ciudad Juárez, were a distraction to later commit the riot in said prison. He specified that both the disturbances and the riot inside the prison had the main purpose of releasing Ernesto Alfredo Piñón de la Cruz, alias “El Neto”, who was one of the provocateurs of riots last year in Ciudad Juárez.

He mentioned that in the operation to control the riot, 285 bags of glass, 25 of cocaine, 68 of marijuana, 69 of heroin, eight fentanyl pills and 50 of glass were seized inside the prison. Also 4 vehicles including an armored Hummer vehicle, a 40 caliber grenade launcher attachment; 27 long arms, 9 short arms and 1.7 million pesos deposited in a safe.

“Within the route that is made for the control of Cereso there are 10 VIP cells, well arranged, with television, with different conditions from those of normal cells,” he said.

He said that 400 elements of the Army, 300 of the National Guard and 150 of the state police participate in the search operation for the escaped inmates.

Finally, the secretaries Luis Crescencio Sandoval and Rosa Icela Rodríguez said that the situation of luxuries that prevailed inside Cereso 3 is not the responsibility of the federal government, but rather that of the Chihuahua government, and offered support to the local administration in case it requests the transfer of inmates to federal prisons.
