Companies are driving the digital transformation of the organization; however, they face a lack of skilled talent, which can hold back their digital acceleration.
The study the Global Technology Trends Survey 2022, carried out by Equinix 2022 highlights that 62% of Information Technology (IT) leaders see the shortage of personnel with IT skills as one of the main threats to the business.
The speed with which the industry is transforming technology has made it more difficult for companies to find talent with technology skills to help meet current and future challenges.
“One of the clear challenges is the lack of awareness among young talents about the opportunities available within the technology sector. It is imperative that the entire technological ecosystem, from the academy to the private initiative, work collaboratively around talent,” said Amet Novillo, CEO of Equinix Mexico.
It is estimated that by 2025, the Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality skills will be the largest technology skills gaps globally, followed by security software developers and mobile app developers. However, Mexicans currently experience a gap in skills such as:
- Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (26%)
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (25%)
- Data analysis (25%)
- Data protection (25%)
Likewise, Mexican leaders say that the speed at which the technology industry is transforming is mainly responsible for the lack of local talent.
What worries leaders?
In Mexico, the main concerns of managers is not finding talent with the right skills and not retaining talent, as indicated by 52% of those surveyed. They are also concerned about the changing expectations of the workforce around ways of working, as well as pay and compensation.
On the other hand, the most in-demand technology employees are those related to technical aspects of IT (34%), those focused on artificial intelligence/machine learning (28%) and cloud computing specialists (25%).
The survey indicates that, in response to skills shortages, companies are working in retrain your workforce Through strategic programs, 90% run programs to train their workers in technology-focused roles.
Novillo highlighted that retraining manages to close the gaps in technological skills, in IT up to 61%, in cloud computing 43% and data analysis 42 percent.
