The news of the NBA at this beginning of the season has been punctuated by several serious conflicts that involve the executive part of the franchises. Right now, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns are undergoing investigation processes that question their work environments. In the case of the Oregon organization, the process is being carried out internally and, despite exposing other issues, it has already resulted in the resignation of Chris McGowan as CEO.
The subject of this investigation is Neil Olshey, general manager of the Blazers accused of perpetrating an alleged culture of workplace abuse. With this and many other situations in mind, the league’s general managers have been planning for months to create an association that protects them. According they report Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski couple ESPN, this process is very close to being closed and their first decision as a group would be to fight against the investigation process that the Blazers leadership is opposing against Olshey.
The idea behind this creation is to create a body similar to the Players Association. The creation process began last March, but it has been this investigation that has accelerated things. This project stems from the concern of more than a dozen league executives for the lack of protection they have against properties. The basic principles of the association are to provide these executives with an economic fund that provides them with lawyers and experts in public relations of this type.
