Lebanese Energy Minister Raymond Ghajar announced that his country has sufficient funds to import electricity fuel until the end of this March, adding: “We may reach a complete blackout of electricity after the end of this month.”
In an interview with the Lebanese “LBCI” channel, Ghajar said: “We have sufficient funds to import the fuel for Lebanon’s electricity at the end of March, and we depend on this on an advance from the treasury, and if the necessary funds are not available, we may reach a complete blackout after the end of this month.”
He added, “We sought all means to secure the advance to Lebanon’s electricity, and we submitted to the Council of Ministers an accelerated and repeated law to achieve this, and we reached this stage because of a structural problem in tariffs.”
He continued: “Iraq will supply Lebanon with 500 thousand tons of black fuel, and Lebanon’s need is one million tons, and what we will do is replace this oil and put in return in the Central Bank of Lebanon the value of this oil provided that these dollars are spent exclusively inside Lebanon, and we are awaiting the signing of the agreement before.” Iraqi government”.
