(Trends Wide) — LeBron James is already the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 points scored on a free throw line shot in the third quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday.
Once the new mark was set, the game was stopped to celebrate James’ achievement. The new king was accompanied on the court by his family, Abdul-Jabbar, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and former player Magic Johnson, among others.
James, 38 and in his 20th season, entered tonight’s game just 36 points shy of breaking the record, which has been held by Abdul-Jabbar since 1984.
