Leeds to demand an explanation from the Premier League and PGMOL as to why Patrick Bamford’s goal against Crystal Palace was ruled out for a minimal offside
- Leeds’ Patrick Bamford had a goal ruled out at Crystal Palace for a tight offside
- With Leeds losing 1-0, Bamford’s outstretched arm was offside but not his body
- VAR referee Mike Dean chalked the goal off after no on-field decision was made
- Marcelo Bielsa’s side went down 4-1 to Roy Hodgson’s Palace side on Saturday
- Leeds will write to the league and the PGMOL wanting more clarity on the call
Leeds are planning to write to the Premier League and PGMOL requesting more clarity on VAR Mike Dean’s decision after Patrick Bamford had a goal controversially ruled out against Crystal Palace.
Striker Bamford was deemed to be offside after pointing to teammate Mateusz Klich where he wanted to through ball to be played.
Dean deemed that Bamford’s gesture put the top of his arm behind last defender Nathaniel Clyne and the goal was chalked off.

Bamford’s arm (number 9 above) was the only part of him that was offside for the ‘goal’
Following a change to the interpretation of the handball rule ahead of this season, Bamford could score with the part of his arm deemed determined was offside.
The decision sparked a huge backlash and while there is little that can be done, Leeds are determined to add their voice to the growing calls for more clarity or the offside rule to be changed.
Leeds were left upset and angered by the decision. Had the goal stood it would have made the score 1-1.

Had the goal stood, Leeds would have been drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace in the first-half
Instead Palace doubled their lead five minutes later and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
Leeds’s frustration at the time was summed up by the furious reaction of director of football Victor Orta in the stands at Selhurst Park.
