Andrés Manuel decided from the beginning of his term that Tabasco would be the national legislative laboratory, and the task was entrusted to one of his closest friends: former governor Adán Augusto López Hernández. This is how we saw the overwhelming majority they had in the local congress used for various clearly unconstitutional reforms: the Compadre law, for more direct assignments; the Garrote law, to put anyone who demonstrated in jail; Dedazo law, to eliminate the election of delegates; anti-democracy law, to reduce the prerogatives of political parties, as well as eliminate representatives of proportional representation and opposition councilors; and many more.
The legislative laboratory had a single objective, to obtain absolute control, eliminate counterweights and silence any voice that thinks differently from Morena. The good news is that despite these attempts, the Judiciary has largely ruled in favor of reversing these legislative aberrations.
Morena’s legislative laboratory did not work. The Garrote Law, which imposed severe penalties on social protests by blocking public roads, was invalidated for being contrary to freedom of expression and demonstration, in addition to imposing disproportionate penalties. The Compadre Law, which allowed the direct allocation of public works and without bidding processes, opening the door to corruption, was invalidated because it prevented guaranteeing the principles of efficiency, transparency and honesty in public spending; and recently, with eight votes in favor and one against, the Supreme Court of Justice invalidated an important part of the anti-democracy law that sought to practically eliminate proportional representation councils, something that clearly threatened democracy and plurality, since it would make Morena have absolute control in Congress with an overrepresentation with respect to the possible votes they obtained.
The opposition deputies are a counterweight to the decisions made by the pro-government majority, and we must exist to maintain the healthy balance of democracy. Another of the arguments mentioned by the ministers was that the misunderstood “republican austerity” does not justify the disappearance of the due proportionalities established by the Constitution, even that a reform of this nature would prevent the opposition from requesting unconstitutionality actions from the judiciary, eliminating an important power of legislators. All these reasoning put forward in the nation’s highest court anticipate that Morena’s electoral Plan B that was approved in the Union Congress at the end of last year, will be reversed in court sooner or later.
As a Mexican, I feel obligated to report what is happening in my land, what the current Secretary of Government intends to replicate in the rest of the federative entities, and the risks faced by Morena deputies if they are repeatedly voting in favor of unconstitutional reforms. , because they could fall into serious penalties.
Fortunately, the SCJN is a beacon of hope when the decisions of the ruling majority are not on the side of the people but on those who only seek to perpetuate themselves in power. From here, my appreciation to Minister Norma Lucía Piña and to the ministers who once again set back the Morena legislative laboratory and defended the voice of all Mexicans.
So let’s meditate if we will really continue #Augusto with the López…
